There are many different types of equipment
to choose from when you need to work at height. Choosing the correct type of
equipment for the job in hand is is very important. To help you decide here
are the uses for various types of equipment:
Extension Ladders:
For general use when working outside. Idea
for smaller jobs like clean/painting windows and cleaning gutters. If you
are working at gutter height then a
ladder stand-off is advisable as it is less likely to slip, avoids
damage to the gutter and allow you to access the gutter more easily.
Scaffolds/Multi-Way:
If you are working at height for longer
periods or are doing more rigorous work over a larger area then a
scaffold is a much safer option. It allows you to
work safely for extended periods and work with heavier loads.
Combination
Ladders:
Great for general use, especially inside
the home for decorating and cleaning. Usually converts to an extension
ladder, step ladder and stairladder - some also convert to a
platform. The extended height is
usually limited making them unsuitable as a complete replacement for an
extension ladder.
Step Ladders:
A general purpose ladder for use in the
home. Uses include decorating, hanging picture/ shelves etc. NOT recommended
for accessing lofts, where a properly designed
loft ladder should be used! For professionals,
